Keeping our minds active enables us to protect memory and mental agility, maintaining the confidence and autonomy we value in daily life. Because our brains have the capacity to adapt and grow in response to new experiences, we can actively preserve and enhance our mental faculties over time. Alongside the other core principles of wellbeing, I can help you incorporate a variety of stimulating activities into your routine. By introducing elements of learning and novelty, even small, thoughtful changes can challenge your brain to make new connections.
If you are working to restore your cognitive functioning following a neurological event, everyday activities can act as opportunities for recovery. I can provide a safe space for you to practice different skills, offering guidance and prompts to support your rehabilitation goals and build your confidence.
For individuals living with mild-moderate dementia, CST is an approach recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). It involves a course of enjoyable, shared, themed activity sessions, which can either be provided in a group or individually. With a focus on thought provoking activities, it’s been shown to produce improvements in cognition, independence and quality of life.
While CST is often provided in group settings through NHS memory clinics, these services cannot always accommodate demand or individual needs. As an alternative, I can deliver the individual CST programme in your own home. This is particularly beneficial if attending a clinic is difficult or undesirable due to mobility, sensory, or mental health challenges. Furthermore, because research shows strong benefits in continuing this supportive programme beyond the initial 14-sessions, I can also offer Maintenance CST over a longer period if desired.
